WARNING: Do not take ginseng if you have high blood pressure, as it may make hypertension worse. When taking ginseng, avoid other stimulants such as tea, coffee
and cola drinks. Since vitamin C may neutralize ginseng, some practitioners suggest an eight-hour interval between taking the two. Note: Women should not take ginseng during pregnancy, when breast-feeding or if they have breast cancer, except under medical advice.
Possible health benefits of ginseng may be: Endurance capabilities, protects against stress-induced problems, and it is said to be the ultimate aphrodisiac. Soviet scientists support the theory of ginseng's energy-giving properties according to medical anthropologist Dr. John Heinerman. When I made some ginseng tea from a powder I ordered from Hsu's ginseng, I was highly impressed, because it actually worked!
They have been in business for over 31 years and they have a great reputation. I made a tea in the morning on an empty stomach and I had amazing amounts of energy (20 minutes later) and this was more effective than drinking three cups of coffee!
Most people I talked with in the nutrition store did not experience the power of ginseng, because they purchased a ginseng product that was not properly manufactured. It is imperative that you take the time to "research" and not just buy whatever is on the shelf at the nutrition store.
Yours in good health,
The Herb Guy

Ginseng is a hot herbal superstar that is
found in a variety of popular energy drinks!
At one time I use to sell this popular herb
in a well-known nutrition store and people
wanted to know the best way, to take it
for optimum health benefits.
This is where my personal experience
and talking with customers' ginseng
experiences really paid off!
Keep in mind, what works for one person may not work
for another, but you have to try different methods to find which one works for you. When it comes to using real ginseng, you have to be careful because it is quite strong.
If you have ever used ginseng and it did not increase your energy level, then you may have purchased a badly manufactured product. Below is a list of vital ginseng uses.
1. Research The Company: This is where I went wrong
over 12 years ago and the internet will give you some real
eye openers about those shady herb companies. For
example: Nature's Way is an exceptional company and I
have experienced great results with their products for years!
How to Use Ginseng for Remarkable Health Benefits
Type the name of these companies online and see what comes up. Read the "About
Us" page and you will find out if they are a pharmaceutically licensed facility. Are they
a certified organic producer? Do they follow GMP (good manufacturing processes)?

2. Ginseng Tea: You can make a simple tea called an infusion. To make an infusion, add
some reputable ginseng powder in boiling water for 15 to 30 minutes. I noticed a
difference in my energy levels in about 20 minutes!
When using heavier plant parts like barks and roots, it is wise to simmer the herbs for
about fifteen minutes to an hour, which will create a decoction according to Forth
Generation Herbalist and teacher Christopher Hobbs L.Ac., A.H.G.
Note: An instant packet of freeze dried ginseng extract makes a pleasant tasting tea.
How effective it is for your health is to be questioned. Delicately chopped pieces of
ginseng root may make a more potent tea then the instant packets.
3. Tablet or Capsule Ginseng: These are made from a dried powdered ginseng root.
Tablets do not seem to work very well, but capsules sell like hot cakes. If you do not
like the taste of ginseng, then this method may be more appropriate for you. Medical
anthropologist Dr. John Heinerman suggests taking an average of 3 capsules per day of
Nature's Way Siberian Ginseng between meals or on an empty stomach for proper
stress management. In Asia, ginseng is taken in a two-weeks-on and two-weeks-off
cycle. Click here for NATURE'S WAY Korean Ginseng - Standardized Extract!
4. Ginseng Roots: These can be obtained as fresh or dried. My choice would be fresh
whenever possible, because then you know your getting the raw power of this herb! You
can juice some ginseng or you can chew the fresh root. The advantage of chewing the
fresh root is certainly not the taste, but if you hold the chewed juice under your tongue
for about a minute, it will go directly to your bloodstream. I know this may not sound
enticing to you, but it is a marvelous way to receive the active properties of ginseng.
Always consult your physician before using any herbal remedies.
Note: I've read where the Chinese would carry the dried root in their pockets and chew it
throughout the rest of the day. If you don't mind a little lint and other weird materials,
then this would be a change from the ordinary. I am not encouraging anyone to do this,
but I thought it was humorous and worth sharing.
5. Ginseng Tinctures: This form of ginseng can be absorbed quickly into the system and
is a common alternative for people who do not favor capsules. A tincture is a highly
concentrated alcohol base in liquid form obtained from pure ginseng. For a person who
is not able to swallow capsules, the tincture is ideal. With an eye dropper you put drops
of ginseng into a glass of water (distilled is a good choice). Want a ginseng extract?
Tinctures are quickly assimilated by the body and are best used to maintain the body's own efforts to defend itself. The old herbalists made some of the strongest tinctures on earth, that would make the hairs on your neck stand up! There are other non-alcoholic extracts that are made with royal jelly and honey for a more pleasing taste. I have used the extract under my tongue and felt like I could run a marathon! This is a healthier alternative to coffee!

Ginseng may help maintain a healthier immune system! Also beneficial for
blood vessels and the nervous system! How does American Ginseng work?
Similar to many Oriental ginsengs, American ginseng is used primarily to
support increased mental efficiency and promote relief from stress and
fatigue by evoking a calming effect on the central nervous system.
My grandfather use to go "shang digging" in Western New York back in the early 1900's. Back then they called it "shang" and the name just stuck! If you want more energy than 50 hummingbirds, then you need some shang!
